Native to South Africa (mother plant = pelargonium graveolens), geranium has been hybridized to give cultivars in Egypt, China, and Reunion Island. The term "Bourbon" means "islands": the Bourbon cultivar comes in particular from the Indian Ocean (Reunion) but also from Madagascar, whose soils are favorable to its growth.
